Designing To Web Standards
Jimmyweb prides itself on its adherence to web standards as defined by the W3 Consortium
The standards set out by this group outline the specifications for providing content over the web. By implementing global standards, universal access to the information on the web is ensured. As many devices become web-enabled - without a standard direction the internet will become segmented, unusable and frustrating.
The Web Standards Project outline some of the advantages and compelling reasons for producing standards compliant websites.
To check whether a website is compliant or not, simply visit the HTML Markup Validator at the W3 Consortium's website and insert the web address of any website. This is often a good way to test a web design company's commitment to standards. Simply input their website address into the validator and see whether this page is valid. If they haven't made the effort to make their own site compliant, then chances are they will neglect this with yours also.
Many web design companies still ignore these standards and continue to pump out non-compliant sites which will diminish the ability for alternative web devices to access them.
Standards Compliance also ensures that search engine robots can successfully crawl and parse your web page for inclusion in their index. Most browsers are quite forgiving to non-compliant pages and will display them, despite the errors which may exist in the code. Search engine robots are a much simpler form of web browser and errors in the code which cannot be seen viewing the site with a browser can trip the robots up.
JIMMYWEB always produce compliant websites and are active members of the Web Standards Group.
